The syllabus of EE115 was evaluated and the previous simulation-based MATLAB laboratory sessions were completely modernized into hands-on, hardware-based laboratory sessions utilizing the Software Defined Radio (SDR) Laboratory. To this end, the following practical laboratory sessions were developed

  • Introduction to LabVIEW Communication
  • Introduction to Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP)
  • Fourier analysis
  • Double-sideband suppressed-carrier
  • Amplitude modulation (AM)
  • Frequency modulation (FM)

These laboratory sessions will be executed in parallel with the weekly classroom discussions. A comprehensive laboratory manual was created, which has two versions: (1) solution manual for faculty and laboratory teaching assistant and (2) laboratory manual for students. The modernized EE115 is being taught in Fall 2017 and these laboratories are offered as part of the course.
